Problem Creating Mount Points

I run an Digital Alpha 2100 server and when installing freebsd.alpha v5.2.1 it 
boots up detecting all SCSI hdd but as soon as it comes to creating mount 
points neither of the SCSI hdd's show any data/partition in which to use on 
the detected drives.  Any help/advice appreciated.
