Hi Darcy,

I ran in to this problem on my PC164LX. Solving it required using chmod from
SRM to make the disk writable, then using dd under FreeBSD to zero out the
first block on the disk. Alphas don't seem to like drives that don't have
SRM-friendly partition tables. Sorry I don't remember the exact commands, but
this may give you a nudge in the right direction.
