It'd be useful to get this upstream, somehow, but I don't have the patience to
deal with whatever bug tracker they are using. The current code in git still
does exactly the same thing as the previous generations: uses the wrong
variable name to symlink the versioned cats library when there is only one
backend. The relative-path things *may* be upstreamable, they are generally
useful; dealing with DESTDIR is a toss-up whether that could be acceptable.
