One major difference is that the symbol versions are not immediately
obvious from outside. A typical user is not going to see that lib.so.7
includes foo at FBSD1.0, bar at FBSD1.5, snafu at FBSD1.1 and snafu at FBSD1.2.
Someone who notices this is probably going to be able to understand
the explanation.
We will, of course, get the 'I just upgraded to 8.0-RELEASE and I still
have libc.so.7' questions in a few years.
