I updated my FreeBSD tree to a version before posix_memalign() was
exported by libc:
$ more /home/build/pre-jasone-malloc
cvs -q up -APd -D '2006/01/12 07:28:20 UTC'
and Emacs can bootstrap correctly.

I'll see if the Emacs folks at emacs-devel at gnu.org can help me track
down why the new posix_memalign() function caused the problems.
Thanks for the offer to help, I may need some as I track this down.
