Hello,

I have a system with Redhat Linux and an Adaptec SCSI Card 39320D. The
system drive is SCSI. The AIC79XX driver disk which came with the
system is tailored for the Redhat 8.0 kernel that ships with the base
RH8.0 distribution. Was able to install and boot successfully into
RH8.0 under that kernel. However, with kernel updates, both from rpm
and from source, the boot process halts at the following command set:

    scsi0  :  Adaptec AIC79XX PCI-X SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 1.0.0
                  <Adaptec aic7902 Ultra320 SCSI adapter>
                  aic7902:  Ultra320 WideChannel A, SCSI Id=7, PCI-X
101-133Mhz, 512 SCBs

    scsi1  :  Adaptec AIC79XX PCI-X SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 1.0.0
                  <Adaptec aic7902 Ultra320 SCSI adapter>
                  aic7902:  Ultra320 WideChannel B, SCSI Id=7, PCI-X
101-133Mhz, 512 SCBs

    Abort called for cmd c464e800

I went to http://people.freebsd.org/~gibbs/linux/DUD/aic79xx and
downloaded aic79xx-1.3.10-i686-rh90.img.gz and copied it to diskette. I
was able to now at least install the RH9.0, but when the install
completed, and the system restarted, it again halted with the above
series of messages during boot. Seeking a nudge in the right direction
here.

David
