I observed the same issue when upgrading from FreeBSD 14.1 to 14.2. After loading drm-61-kmod, the console stops updating. However, if SDDM is started automatically, the login manager is able to display graphics, and it is possible to log into the desktop environment. Switching to one of the PTYs is not possible, though—pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1, for example, only makes the mouse cursor disappear. With Ctrl+Alt+F9, control is returned to the Xorg PTY, and the mouse cursor reappears. This phenomenon was discussed in [1] and is also mentioned in the Errata [2]. In this mode, as well as with the workaround of downgrading to drm-515-kmod, 3D acceleration does not work. Ultimately, what resolved the issue for me was rebuilding drm-kmod from the 2024Q4 Ports Collection sources.
