So maybe we should drop the GPL bits (sys/gnu/dev/bwn/phy_n/) we manually have
to compile into the kernel and just use the permissively licensed ones
available?

A bit of a hassle to adjust things to them and enough work but would be do-able
and apart from the gcov would also mean sys/gnu is gone...  but I think that
would kind-of be the only motivation to do this at this point.


In the mean time the port/package wifibox-brcm could also help...
