Having resolved all my issues locally, the power_off issue was a red herring
unrelated to this patch.

If this works for you and others I will submit a phabricator review of the
code.

AP mode still needs some testing though. AP mode worked before however testing
of AP mode is required to ensure this causes no regressions there either.
