To get OpenBSD to work, you need:

hostbridge="amd"

in the .conf file. Not sure if that is related here but something else to try.

Is it trying to do some video initialisation? Maybe try using the VNC hookup in
addition to the serial console and see if there are any differences:

graphics_port="5900"
graphics_res="1024x768"
graphics_vga="off"
xhci_mouse="yes"
utctime="yes"
