I do not agree with that slanted rant.

I merely suggest that the user be given the option to enable/disable a
critical feature of the ZFS datasets at install time. This should include
the compression options as well as checksum.

Sadly Oracle has long since hidden/deleted the blogs from people such as
Jeff Bonwick but I think this is a reasonable read :

So perhaps this "bug" or RFE is really something for the installer to offer
as options to the user.
