What's happening here is that 'UP' is not 'up', so it's not recognised as a command, but is being interpreted as a hostname: address For the inet family, the address is either a host name present= in the host name data base, hosts(5), or an IPv4 address expresse= d in the Internet standard =E2=80=9Cdot notation=E2=80=9D.
