Filesystem is not clean - run fsck.: Operation not permitted Run fsck manually, two or three times. Also try to re-initalize the file system. Also perform a dd or tar test with the stick. If any test fails, it's designed to be thrown away. Any mount operation (except "mount -r") will intendedly (!) fail if the file system is not in a clean state.
