Tried that some years ago, without success.

Ah! For me it was the other way around: Firefox would have been my first 
choice, but it would not work, so I moved to Chromium, which worked 
almost immediately.

Not sure I can help, because I dropped that project long ago, but just 
ask and I'll see what I remember (assuming it still applies).
