You have options such as VirtualBox.

If you prefer dual boot: sorry, there's no relevant mention of the 
phrase in the FreeBSD Handbook.

Installation of FreeBSD (the operating system) is not time-consuming. 
Choose 13.1-RELEASE, unless you have a special reason to choose a 
different version (see below).

Subsequent installation of a desktop environment might take more time, 
but not too much.

If you will install to hardware (not to a virtual machine), it will help 
to know at least two things:

1. the graphics hardware

2. the wireless hardware, if any.
