A thought has occurred to me - it is possible that someone your
computer up to "dual boot" with both FreeBSD and the original Windows
installation present and that something has happened to switch the default
into which the system boots. That's achieved by fiddling with the BIOS
controls, or the boot manager configuration, of the PC before it boots. Your
"unix expert" can probably help you check that possibility out and show you
how to switch between the two if that is indeed what has happened to you -
there will likely be fleeting messages during the boot up that say what key
combinations get you to the necessary controls on an "HP Beats" laptop or
whatever boot manager (if any) is in use.
