Thank you for the detailed answer. I had feared such conflicts.

Since both NumPy versions are needed at the same time, at least for a probably
longer transition phase in more complex installations, e.g. for GIS software
such as with QGIS, SAGA GIS etc., variant (b) seems the safest to me.
