I'm sorry I have no alternative solution to propose, if you need the old version you can fork the port. I'm personally neutral towards rust , but I agree it contributes to a tendency of open source software to grow expensive dependencies (for example everything is now growing dependencies on HTML rendering engines with all the problems that entails).
