Using --recursive in Makefile / github clone

Hello,

is it possible to use something like --recursive in the Makefile for 
github clone?

USE_GITHUB=     yes
GH_TUPLE=       user:proj:part:${ECLIPSE_TAG} \
                 user:proj:part:${ECLIPSE_TAG}:a/part \
                 ...

I don't see it here...
