Please use a full git hash for GH_TAGNAME, do not abbreviate it. An
abbreviated GH_TAGNAME may not be unique if your repository grows, so you
should always use a full one.
Though as you control the upstream, I wonder why you don't just tag a version
and reference that tag through DISTVERSION.
