What problem are you trying to solve? Do you just not want to install a jdk8
dependency, or is there some incompatibility you are experiencing with this
port compiled against jdk8? I checked a bunch of the other Java library ports,
and jdk8 seems to be the standard runtime dependency. 

Upstream claims to support 1.4 or higher so I don’t see any issue building with
1.8, this makes us more compatible (unless you tell me something new?) and
there are a couple of downstream ports still on jdk8 so I don’t think it makes
sense to change the default.
