--- Comment #15 from Ronald Klop <ronald-lists@klop.ws> ---
There is an interesting thread on ports@freebsd.org about this topic:
https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-ports/2022-June/002119.html

The maintainer Andrew Walker <awalker@ixsystems.com> of TrueNAS/Samba ports
also responded, but I don't find this mail in the ports archive:

try to get that into the regular ports tree or how much effort it took them to
accomplish this. I'll cc the maintainer of them.

Our port of samba may not be 100% appropriate for upstreaming. For instance, we
do not build with the AD DC role and we have custom vfs modules that are not
tested against the variety of configurations that FreeBSD users might have. I'm
happy to make a quick update of the FreeBSD port to 4.15 or 4.16 if Timur is no
longer maintaining it.
