https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=266038 Bug ID: 266038 Summary: emulators/virtualbox-ose 6.1.36_1 fails to startx Product: Ports & Packages Version: Latest Hardware: amd64 OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Some People Priority: --- Component: Individual Port(s) Assignee: vbox@FreeBSD.org Reporter: gnuserland@mailbox.org Assignee: vbox@FreeBSD.org Flags: maintainer-feedback?(vbox@FreeBSD.org) Dear Maintainer, this is has been affecting me for a while, and I noticed that is shared among other users: https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/vboxvideo-driver-needs-a-bump.86128/ https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/black-screen-when-x-starts-after-upgrade.86237/page-2 My host is Win10 PRO 64Bit, Unfortunately I couldn't find any meaningful logs for troubleshooting it: the screen goes black and it looks like nothing is recorded anywhere therefore I was only able to reproduce the bug: 1. Download https://download.freebsd.org/releases/amd64/amd64/ISO-IMAGES/13.1/FreeBSD-13.1-RELEASE-amd64-bootonly.iso.xz 2. Extract 3. Create a new virtual machine (FreeBSD 64Bit): PAE/NX & Nested VT-x/AMD-V enabled; Paravirtualization interface: default; nested paging enabled. 4. Installation from ISO: basic installation, with clear ZFS filesystem, 64GB (dynamic) disk, 2GB Ram, 2GB Swap, 64MB Video Mem, 2 vCPU. 5. # pkg upgrade and then pkg install xorg virtualbox-ose-additions 6. Modify RC.CONF: vboxguest_enable="YES" \ vboxservice_enable="YES" \ vboxservice_flags="--disable-timesync" 7. reboot, login, startx = works! 8. Modifiy repo into latest as described here: https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/book/#quarterly-latest-branch 9. # pkg upgrade: it will update among the others xorg and virtualbox-ose-addition. 10: reboot; loging; startx: black screen. For any additional request please do not hesitate to ask! Thanks, Freezr (ex Gnuserland) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
