Same problem: I'm using a self-signed certificate on my custom repo, "pkg -d
update -f" shows:

* Hostname XXX was found in DNS cache
*   Trying [XXX]:443...
* Connected to XXX (XXX) port 443 (#11)
* ALPN: offers http/1.1
*  CAfile: none
*  CApath: /etc/ssl/certs/
* SSL certificate problem: self signed certificate
* Closing connection 11


Would be nice to be able to set CAfile, or at least temporarily, being able to
ignore the error.
