Yes, I'm interested, but Curtis should upload the patch for the ports tree.
I had a quite similar patch for ghc and couldn't get it to work. I started from
the last bootstrap that kind of worked (8.6) and moved up release-by-release.
At 9.0, I had to do unregisterized build, because otherwise the built ghc would
crash at install. Same with 9.2. I couldn't get 9.4 to build at all.

Curtis mentioned by email that he used GCC, so I think a patch for the port
itself would be much better.
