Relying on a minority's volunteering effort isn't the best plan if you ask me.

I am a regular FOSS contributor at this point, but the amount I contribute during this time working in a proprietary environment is minimal compared to how much I contributed when I was paid to do FOSS two years ago. The time simply doesn't add up.

And that "minimal" volunteering effort has not been targeting FreeBSD so far either. Linux steals plenty of the spotlight, while also currently struggles with an anticipated C developer shortage, leading them to invest to Rust in hopes to attract new contributors.

I got to join this mailing list because I met Deb and other members back in FOSDEM 2023, drawing my interest to target FreeBSD as the first port of the tool I developed at the time.

Funding issue in FOSS as a problem isn't new, and we can only hope it's going to get resolved, eventually.
