I c= ompletely agree that VirtioFS would be a great project.

I disagree that the Doors project was completed= . The implementation got all of the superficial bits (specific to how Swing D= oors were adapted for Solaris, which didn=E2=80=99t really fit with the Free= BSD model) but missed the absolutely critical reason why Doors would be usef= ul: Doors provide a process switch that avoids the scheduler at all and lets= the callee run with the scheduler=E2=80=99s quantum. This is phenomenally u= seful for compartmentalised applications.

Hi Sairaj,
Thanks for your interest in the FreeBSD project. We've been aro= und for a long time, and sometimes ideas on our ideas page are sometimes a b= it old.

The Solaris Doors project was done a few ye= ars ago at https://gith= ub.com/bnovkov/freebsd-doors so might not be a good choice.
I'm not familiar with the bhyve integration one. John Baldwin w= ould be the best person to answer that question. gdb works well enough for m= e, but this one may still be relevant since I think it would greatly improve= performance.

Another idea in line with your vi= rtualization would be to implement virtiofs on FreeBSD. We have virtual netw= ork, block , console, etc, but not virtiofs. This is basically FUSE over vir= tio channels, and  isn't too big of a project that would let you use yo= ur virtualization experience and learn about filesystems.

There might be other projects as well. This is the one that occurs to= me.

Hello hackers
I a= m Sairaj Kodilkar, a kernel enthusiast=20 and looking to explore FreeBSD. I am currently working at samsung=20 semiconductor research and previously interned as linux kernel developer at Texas instruments, where I worked on adding xen hypervisor support=20 for their SOC. I previously contributed to unikernel as part of google=20 summer of code where I worked on synchronizing virtio network driver.
I was going through the ideas list and found  "Solaris Doors IPC Implementation" and "bhyve gdb-s= tub/dcons integration". I would like to know if they are still available.
Also I am new to FreeBSD, so any guidance on these topics is appreciated.=
