This is the case with firefox-112.0_1,2 with the optional ALSA turned on, SNDIO
turned off.

If the ALSA settings are left at default and nothing is done, we will get sound
output.
If we intentionally fail to set up ALSA (e.g. echo foobar >> ~/.asoundrc), we
will not be able to get sound output.

There is no falldown to OSS.
This will also be one of the conditions under which sound output cannot be get.
