Of course, fixing this bug (without providing an option to revert back to the
old behavior on demand, e.g. through sysctl) will break certain functionality.

But not fixing this bug is a security issue (e.g. chmod will not take immediate
effect, such that when group memberships are changed, people may access files
that they were never supposed to read). For a detailed discussion see the
