Unfortunately there has not been any progress regarding smbfs2/3

The verbal offer to donate an up to date fork of this still stands, but the
timing remains unclear. I continue asking.

Given the delay, I wonder if it would be valuable for the WG to consider
another approach? I don't have any ideas but perhaps others do.

Regarding .NET, presumably you have seen the Port, but just in case (and
for others): https://www.freshports.org/lang/dotnet/

In terms of getting this upstreamed in .NET, this is a topic of active
discussion between the Foundation and the .NET team. I hope to have an
update in the near/medium term (my goal is this Quarter)
