i don't think it's over. half of the changes are all over contrib/ and i have
no idea where to begin with those; i'm no committer nor a diplomat, though i'll
be happy to try and help.

i dont hack on src/ much, share even less and have absolutely no idea what the
procedures are to facilitate upstream change or maintain downstream
modification

also, theres one modification (left out of the diffs but suggested in the
script) that appears to be from some test vector data. i need guidance from
better minds in order to touch that one
