ok, AFTER the fetch, the first "install" gives me some cryptic message:
(need to type in manually, forgot the script :-))) )

ZFS filesytem version 5
ZFS storage pool: feature support (5000)
(both lines are highlighted, so I guess these are msgs from the kernel)?

installing updates ...cp /boot/kernel.old1/./freebsd-update: File exists

Kernel updates have been installed. Please reboot and run
"/usr/sbin/freebsd-update install" again to finish installing updates...


DOES THIS LOOK PROMISING???

(the old1 is the currently booted kernel, old refused to run)
