Historically the ports tree has been flexible enough to accommodate that use case. It would be a shame for that flexibility to go a= way - it is one of the great strengths of ports. I'm not entirely following what the motivation is for removing it. Is it technically difficult to maintain with the new version? Are you concerned that it's not sufficiently tested?
