My reference to freetype2 was merely another example where a build system
change had unexpected consequences. It was not meant to belittle your work. I
am sorry I sounded like that!

I am not opposing replacing deprecated functionality. Making sure that no port
relies on such functionality is fine, but you should take "external" uses into
account as well. IMHO keeping functionality is a courtesy to users. I
understand that maintaining a port is time-consuming.
