Just to ease your concerns: it also doesn't work if the browser download
directory is set to /tmp and home and /tmp are on different datasets (and
~/.local is on the same dataset as the rest of home).

I hope having separate filesystems for /tmp and home is OK and that setting the
download directory to /tmp is also OK.
