The problem persists. It is not likely a hardware problem. OT - for those bumping into this thread and wondering what they can use instead, with FreeBSD 14.2 and a DELL PowerEdge R440: I swapped it for the more expensive H740P mini, which can be used in HBA mo= de. This works. The H740P is driven by mrsas and mrsasutil instead of mpr. The HBA mode has to be set up in the BIOS/UEFI utility. Note that this is a "global" setting, not like it used to be before with similar cards. After setting it up and rebooting the machine completely, the disks will ap= pear as daX-daY. Hopefully this mpr bug will be fixed; after all the cheaper controller is g= ood enough at least for booting.
