OK; I see that the change was MFCed to stable/14 on Mon Jul 29 18:36:42 2024 +0200; the original commit to head was Wed Jul 10 08:05:25 2024 +0200. I had been out of town much of June and 04 - 07 July, so I probably hadn't been paying much attention to the mouse on that laptop then. (My main laptop is much older, and does not use i2c for the mouse.) TL;DR: I don't really have a "last known good commit." From the commit message, it looks as if the change was intended to make ... something ... better, so I think the best option would be to try your "You may try to include all" suffestion (probably via loader.conf). And since he's cited as a reviewer, maybe pick Warner's brain sometime if we both get to a meeting a bit early. :-) I plan to follow up with a progress update (once I have some progress to mention).
