https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=280049 Bug ID: 280049 Summary: Interface errors in the Partition Editor of the Installer wizard Product: Base System Version: 14.1-STABLE Hardware: Any OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Many People Priority: --- Component: bin Assignee: bugs@FreeBSD.org Reporter: ant-x@rambler.ru The [Partition editor] window in the Installer wizard of FreeBSD 14.1 has several usability errors. Since they all occur on the same component, I consider it permissible to report them all in this issue: 1. The partition sizes displayed in both the [Partition Editor] and [Edit Partition] windows alwasy show the values with which the partition was added, never reflecting changes made via [Modify], although those changes do take effect. The size calculation to check whether a new partition may be added are also based on these wrong and frozen values. 2. The hint for the [Size:] field in the [Edit Partition] window says to use K, M, and G for kilo-, mega- and gigabytes, whereas the wizard itself specifies GB for gigabytes and MB for megabytes. This is a self-contradiction. Please, select a single unit-nameing scheme and stick to it throughout the installer in order to save confusiton. 3. This hing for the [Mountpoint] in the [Edit Partition] window says to leave it blank for swap, whereas the guided setup, automatially creates a swap partion has `none' in that field, rather than an empty string. This is an internal contradiction. 4. While creating a freebsd-ufs partition on the [Add Partition] windows, if the user enters [UFS Options] and unchecks both Softupdates and Softupdates journalling and presses [OK], these changes do seem to be applied: if the user returns to [UFS Options], both checkboxes are back on. These are rather annoying bugs affecting /all/ FreeBSD users who install the OS via the text-mode UI wizard. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
