Forgot to mention in previous comment:

I will try to get our driver to handle primary/secondary firmware and firmware
specific NVRAM (and other) areas better/correctly).
As I've no documentation (and getting one probably requires signing an NDA)
this means reading and understanding the penguin driver and (re)implementing
the mandatory bits and pieces and testing, testing, testing to not break
anything for the old controllers.

This will for sure take quite amount of time, so keep your expectations low.
