Thanks for the tip, but I tried it and it still panics with

debug.late_console="0"
boot_serial="YES"
console="comconsole"

in loader.conf and manually setting "Cons: Serial" in EFI loader menu (by
pressing 5, otherwise default is "Cons: Dual (Serial primary)").
