            Bug ID: 270582
           Summary: freebsd-update: Minor enhancement suggestion
           Product: Base System
           Version: Unspecified
          Hardware: Any
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Some People
          Priority: ---
         Component: bin
          Assignee: bugs@FreeBSD.org
          Reporter: jwb@freebsd.org

Currently, "freebsd-update upgrade" fetches metadata for the current version
and inspects the system before verifying that the new version is available.
This is a minor annoyance for those chomping at the bit for a new release and
those who mistype the new version. If would be nice if it would error out
instantly if an invalid new version is indicated instead of making the user
wait.

Looking up update.FreeBSD.org mirrors... 2 mirrors found.
Fetching metadata signature for 13.2-RC5 from update2.freebsd.org... done.
Fetching metadata index... done.
Inspecting system... done.

The following components of FreeBSD seem to be installed:
kernel/generic kernel/generic-dbg src/src world/base world/lib32

The following components of FreeBSD do not seem to be installed:
world/base-dbg world/lib32-dbg

Does this look reasonable (y/n)? y

Fetching metadata signature for 13.2-RC6 from update2.freebsd.org... failed.
Fetching metadata signature for 13.2-RC6 from update1.freebsd.org... failed.
No mirrors remaining, giving up.

This may be because upgrading from this platform (amd64)
or release (13.2-RC6) is unsupported by freebsd-update. Only
platforms with Tier 1 support can be upgraded by freebsd-update.
See https://www.freebsd.org/platforms/ for more info.

If unsupported, FreeBSD must be upgraded by source.
