Ok, after some messing around, I found that boot1.elf seems to work only with
MBR schema (not GPT or BSD).

Disabling VGA may also be helpful...

I add this because it is not in the docs, so I will be able to google this out
next time... (I'm pretty sure I'll forget by then)
