Now after running mergemaster -UFi
the ldconfig lines were presented to interact on (among others)

Having completed mergemaster and checkig with grep the lines were deleted.

Now what to conclude from this? 

Does etcupdate work as intended? 
How to see/interact/confirm that etcupdate does what it is expected to do?
Is mergemaster still the better tool?
