Hi, thanks for your interest. I don't think there is much to debug.
You could apply the patch from bug #244630. Than the patch from this issue.
Compile and install and report back if things are working as expected or not.

To get things going we might need to create a review
(https://reviews.freebsd.org/) for committers to check. I was planning to do
that the next few days.
