the port downloads a totally normal u-boot file and unpacks the (unpatched) original sources from there.
As far as I remember for even the RPI-specific freebsd-patches were mostly(or all) removed.
While a bit fiddly then to configure you can download every u-boot version you want and compile  from within the port.
