I was having the same problem with the installer on my Thinkpad P16s Gen 1 AMD
(6840U)

So I installed FreeBSD 14.1-RELEASE using an external keyboard, downloaded the
kernel sources, applied John's patch, recompiled the kernel, added
`hint.uart.1.disabled=1` to /boot/device.hints and now, finally, everything
works!
