I also was successful with FreeBSD 14.1-RELEASE.  I had hoped John's patch was
in FreeBSD-15.0-CURRENT but it wasn't (as of June 20th snapshot) so I ended up
adding the patch and doing the buildworld, buildkernel, installkernel and
installworld process with FreeBSD 14.1-RELEASE.  I also second the point about
the /boot/device.hints in Comment 45.  At first I tried to reboot with an
unmodified /boot/device.hints file, then I had to use loader prompt "3" to add
the "hint.uart.1.disabled=1" in order to boot properly.  Lesson learned.  Then
once I was running in multi-user mode, I added the line to the file.  Things
are now working as expected.  Thanks to all.
