Not a big deal anyway: GCC ports live long in the ports tree, but not forever. So, as you pointed out, the port could not be built. PORTEPOCH is there to allow our tools to know that a package's version is newer than the one that is installed. As the port could not be built, there could not have been a package with the bogus PORTVERSION, so, bumping PORTEPOCH was not needed. -- Mathieu Arnold
