Well I was not aware of this assertion issue. Now that I've noticed it, 
I'm unable to really build a patch top fix it. What could be done is 
force these ports to use llvm from ports, which have assertions 
disabled. But this is not a proper fix, and would add a dependency on 
ports llvm, which is something we should avoid.

So I'm not sure what would be the best strategy to address this.

Does this mean we can hope the issue will be fixed by upstream at some 
point?
