The MAINTAINER knob disagrees:https://github.com/freebsd/freebsd-ports/blob/main/graphics/pngcrush/Makefile#L8 Anyways, this is not how it is done. You're asking no remove the DEPRECATED knob now, because somewhen later you're going to provide a patch that will fix the build and set you as maintainer. But it may not happen for whatever reason (not because you even!) and then we end up with a broken port not marked as such. I feel that people see some negativity in marking stuff DEPRECATED. There is not. It just means "hey, if this port won't get some love, it is going to be removed". If you want to do the work - go ahead, but remove the DEPRECATED knob yourself in the first patch.
